Hello everyone,

Its been a while since I updated this journal. I hope everyone had a nice christmas and new year! Today I cutted out all the cards, and worked on my Keimpemastins. I started over again. I'm posting my work in progress on; www.cmd.tech.nhl.nl/users/roord500

I'm feeling sad, because I have the feeling I'm not getting much EC's. I just heard that our client rejected our idea for the video. This means, the video won't be great/good at all, and that I won't get my EC for video from last year. :(
All these restrictions is driving me crazy. I'm so afraid I won't get my EC's because of all the restrictions we had in these 6 months. And I feel like it's all been spoiled. And I don't even have time to create a new other project to get my EC.

Keimpemastins

I just made this first version of the Keimpemastins building in Leeuwarden.
Some week ago, I decided to make 3 buildings for this project. The Achmea, Keimpemastins en the Waag. The Achmea Tower has still some little mistakes, but Im getting a little bit bored of the Achmea :P And yesterday we went with our client for a city trip. To see what kind of locations we can shoot with our film. It was fun. They also gave me the instruction buildings drawings of the Keimpemastins.
So I gave it a shot, and this is what I got so far.
14th century Keimpemastins. Better to wait some days, because I'm not really sure about some things. Maybe I should email them!

Achmea

Today I worked on the Achmea Tower.
This is what I got so far. There are some little baby mistakes, I think. But I will fix that soon, after we had a meeting again with our client.

I have putted the renders under a cut, so I won't take that long to load this site.

Woohooo!

Yesterday I got kinda bored, so I followed some random tutorials, founded on www.tutorialized.com

I learned how to use the loft tool, and the spacing tool. I think those options are quite cool!

Tomorrow we have a meeting with Platform again, a brainstorm session.
We will see how that ends up. Our whole concept is probably dead by then.
I don't like it all. Now, we are 3 months further, and STILL we don't have a steady concept. Damn!! :(

Today we had a meeting with Platform. It went ok. I saw all the great work what the other groups made. And it made me feel dissapointing.
Im dissapointed in school, and in my project. And I will tell you why.
When I started this second year. I had chose a project, and I tried really hard to find people for this project. But no one was intrested, or people just left without saying anything. So I also decided, it was time to move on, and chose another project. I came in the project I am now. And in this project there is no room for ideas and creativity. AND the biggest thing what upsets me, is that, this project hardly has 3D in it. =(
I started this year all happy! I was going to learn 3D! *jumps in the air* And the more I listen to my own project, I get more down. There's nothing fun about it. And I feel I'm forced to do something I don't want to do. I wanna make 3D! I want to creat awesome things in 3D, what people actually will use too.
I think I will start over, and think again, and again, and again... Maybe change my mind about this all... and feel less sad.

Freaking out

At the moment I'm kinda freaking out, and feeling worried and scared.
I heard that we have presentations and assessments on friday and monday.
But I don't know what to present, or to assess?!?! I mean, we kinda started over again with our project. With a new concept. And the thing is, we didn't had any consults yet!! And this is not what I wanted, nor expected! I have said for months that we need to arrange consults. Ofcourse we have worked on our Analyse, Functional Design and Concept. But I have the feeling that I dont have a guarantee that it's ok!! So, like OMG?? Im worried. =( A lot of things frustrate me right now. Our group doesn't even has a plan set up yet. And we are busy now for like 3 months. And I have talked with the group about that, but guess no one wants to listen to me. And now I feel I'm kinda in shit because of this all. And I also have the feeling I'm working really hard to learn new things, and to progress myself. And sometimes I feel like the others don't. And then I have the feeling I need to do everything on my own. I'm glad Ronald is participating in the group well. I feel like we are the only ones in the group who are actually communicating and working hard. So... now I have nothing to say anymore. I hope everything will go fine friday and monday.
At least I did my best. I tried to make the documentation totally ok, and said many times we needed an consult, but we still didn't had one yet! (LIKE WTF)
I probably read the Analyse, Concept and Functional Design over and over again, like 1000 times. But still... that feeling it might not be ok, bothers me alot. :( And of course I can show things I made in 3D for some Ec's. Because I did really my best on those things. But you can also see that in my journal.

Today we had a meeting with the group. Like I said before, we are going to make the product what our client want, and next to that we are going to work on our own ideas. Today we chose what kind of an idea you wanted to work out.
I chose a growing 1603 Leeuwarden city. With 4-5 3D buildings in it.
And I think I will make the whole city in a plain way in 3D too. Because I think this will look better. The idea is to fly through Leeuwarden, and fly around those 3D building, and together with that, the city will grow part by part.
So, actually, this is kinda a big project/idea. I hope I will finish this in 3 months. Anyways, I think this idea will look good in my showportfolio!
My Achmea tower for the project is almost ready. But I need to work a little bit harder on it, and it will look great! Hopefully it will be ready this weekend. So... no sitting still for me! :D Laterssss xxx

Tuesday we had a meeting with our coordinator from school. We talked about our issues and ideas. We came to the solution to do what the client want. And next to that, we will work out our own ideas, to get our EC's. We made this decision with the whole group.
Today I have worked on my Achmea tower. When I was walking to school, I saw I missed some big important detail of this tower. And strangely, I couldn't find any of this on pictures and so on.
So, I made the Achmea tower again. I'm not quite finish yet. But tomorrow I will continue, and start with the texturing.
Today I have sended everyone our agenda and the notuls from the last meeting.
Also I have been struggling for days with my Waterpoort project. But lucky me, we had a 3D workshop from Wessel. So this was a great opportunity for me, to ask some questions! He helped me out a lot! So now, I can continue with my oh so great awesome Waterpoort. I'm sure I will be drop dead proud of it when its finish! :D LOL
And I want a new layout... This one is kinda boring, don't you think?
Oh and I'm having a terrible pain in my shoulder since today, its oh so not cooll... :(

This weekend I have been very busy with school. I made my moodboard, showing Leeuwarden from beginning till now. And I looked over the Functioneel Ontwerp.
I changed some things, and already made a lot of screen shots.
Also I made a beginning in 3D of the Achmea tower.

Thursday we had a meeting in my group, and i suggested we should get busy. So we gave everyone in the group a 3D building to made.

I was actually thinking I'm quite ambitious. I want to learn so many stuff!
For example;
- Improve my skills in 3D max 9. (Modeling, Animating, Lighting, Texturering)
- Vray
- Zbrush
- Improve my skills Photoshop
- Improve my skills Flash
- Photograpghy
and so on... and so on... ^__^

This weekend I decided I wanted to two towers finisched from my Waterpoort project. I succeeded! Yeah! Only one thing I'm struggling with. And that are those round circles on top of the towers. (You know, those typical old century circles in building). I'm going to ask some help, and try again... It should/must work eventually... :D Wish me luck!

And for the school thing, we had a meeting with our client this morning.
We showed our little example, but the client didn't agree with the idea.
So we need to go filming soon. He wanted to have more dynamic images.
Tomorrow we will have a meeting with Mr. Piersma.
See how that goes...

Arg I feel frustrated! I told everyone in my group we are going to have an assessment soon, and no one believed me.
And now, I just received an e-mail, with the following information: assessments after 13 november. So who was right now? Damnit! Arg!

I want to wish everybody a happy halloween! Go, and scare the hell out of people, I would say... ^^
I should update this journal more often. But lately I'm quite busy entertaining myself with 3D and making of it.
In the holiday, our group went to Amsterdam. There was a 3D convention all day. So, we all decided to go! At 2 pm we arrived at the place where it was held.
Then we all followed; Maya, 3D Max 9, ZBrush and Vray.
I wanted to follow more, but due the lack of time we had, I couldn't. :(
The presentations were really interesting. Some months ago I downloaded ZBrush already. And actually I didn't knew what to do with it. But in that presentation of Zbrush, I realized you can do awesome stuff with it!
I'm certainly going to practice with it some time!
At 6 pm we went home again. But the trip took too long! I arrived at home at 11 pm. I was dead beat tired, but it was worth it.

Some things I need to think more about. My EC's from last year.
Because I'm so busy with the whole 3D, it seems I'm forgetting it. (Bad me)
I did email some people in my class, asking if they want to cooperate with me, making a flash game, and making a new video. Have some people so far.
Also emailed someone for my Vakgebieden, but still no response. So I'm going to get after that.
Our project is doing fine too. But we are still discussing about how we should do things. It takes too much time.
So we decided to get a closure of the projectplan, as soon as possible, and get busy.
I feel kinda sad that this project doesn't has many 3D aspects in it. Mostly because I want to learn more 3D. In this project we have some buildings to make in 3D, like 4-8 or something.
Well, I will leave it with this...
My render takes too damn long! I'm not a very patient-ed person...
But now my Happy Halloween card will be send too late... =((

Raytrace and shadows

Yesterday and today, I made the following images, using raytrace and light/shadow effects. I think it turned out well.

My first creation:

A comfy old chair. In this image I have put 2 shadows, for testing. One shadow from an omri, and one shadow from a spotlight.

My second creation:

More realistic. I think this one rocks... \m/

Im proud of the end result.

Basically, Im more practising my modelling skills.

Our project is doing fine. Today we discussed further about a good concept. But its quite hard, because we dont have all the materials we need. But finally we have made a setting for our project, and in the holiday I'm going to make a storyboard. Also everybody is going to re-read the "Analyse" to see if we missed something.
Also... next thuesday, our group is going to visit the 3D confention in Amsterdam. I feel really excited about it! Woohoo!
And oh yeah, since thuesday we have a new member in our group.
Well nothing more to tell.

Waterpoort Sneek

I hope it will turn out great, so I can send it to our mayor.
